Southcott Curriculum Statement

Southcott Lower School - Curriculum Statement

Governing Bodies are required to produce a Curriculum Statement annually. This replaces the requirement under the School Framework and Standards Act 1998 for a curriculum plan.  This statement sets out the principles underpinning the curriculum at Southcott Lower School and reflects the school’s commitment to developing all aspects of pupils’ lives.

At Southcott Lower School our vision is for all children to become confident, secure, caring individuals who achieve personal success and a lifelong love of learning. Our curriculum aims to do this through a practical, skills based and thematic approach to learning. Our curriculum meets the requirements of the 2014 primary curriculum and is taught with the consideration of all our learners to equip our children to become independent and responsible citizens. We aim to do this through

  • Embedding ‘Every Child Matters’ in all learning opportunities
  • Developing a sense of community and belonging and linking with wider community organisations and activities
  • Providing meaningful, purposeful learning tasks
  • Holding a flexible timetabling approach to make space for depth of study
  • Establishing cross-curricular links to foster broader understanding
  • These subject policies have been written by staff and governors.  Please click here to go to the Policy page.

Letters and Sounds is the phonics scheme used in Key Stage 1.

In addition to the subject information given, the Class Pages include the Curriculum Planning documents that give an outline of what is being studied in each term or half term for each of the curriculum subjects.   If you would like more information about the curriculum, please contact your child’s teacher in the first instance.
