Emergency Closure Information

Southcott’s belief is that our children are entitled to 190 school days per year and we will do everything in our power to ensure that those days are available to them. The school will  remain open unless: heavy snow prevents us from opening; the heating fails; insufficient staff are able to get to school; or we are advised by the police or the Local Authority to close.

In the event of heavy snow children in Reception will enter school through their usual doors. Children in Pre-school, Year 1, Year 2, Year 3 and Year 4 are to come into school via the main entrance (and come into school using the door by the school office).

Children should:

  • Come in snow boots or wellingtons – don’t forget hat, scarf and gloves. We will be going outside to make to most of the snow.
  • Bring a change of shoes and clothes (jogging bottoms are a good idea).

If driving conditions deteriorate severely during the day we will message you via ParentHub to arrange for you to collect your child early.

If the school is unable to open, this will be communicated by 07.30 in the following ways:

  • a message via ParentHub will be sent to all parents/carers
  • Central Bedfordshire Council has an 'SOS' information service where parents are able to sign up to receive important information about school closures due to adverse weather. To register for this service visit:

https://apps.centralbedfordshire.gov.uk/webApps/SOS/

Click in the menu area to register for updates

  • a message will be placed on our website
  • a message will be placed on Heart FM and Three Counties radio stations

If the school has to close during the school day:

  • a message will be sent via ParentHub to all parents/carers, detailing collection arrangements.

Please help us to help you by:

  • informing us of changes to mobile phone numbers
  • checking that the school is open before dropping children off
  • ensuring that children are appropriately dressed for severe weather conditions
  • not attempting the journey to school if the weather or road conditions are dangerous.
